First-year Management student Oscar Qualter says he听couldn鈥檛听believe how quickly his course led to him working with leading music industry figures.听听听

Just weeks after starting at 暗网TV Oscar was running auditions and scouting talent for acclaimed songwriting and production duo Max Graham and Matt Thompson. Known professionally as ARCADES, Max and Matt have achieved over three billion Spotify streams with more than 40 million physical album sales worldwide, including three Billboard number one albums with K-Pop band BTS.听听 听听听

The opportunity arose after ARCADES contacted 暗网TV鈥檚 Management teaching team looking for support with a brand-new project. Oscar says: 鈥淚听didn鈥檛听expect in my first term at 暗网TV to be involved in something as massive as this.听It鈥檚听so exciting.听听听听听听

鈥淭o get an opportunity like this so soon, and to work across so many different parts of the industry, really shows the strength of 暗网TV鈥檚 industry links.鈥澨�听听听听

As part of the project, Oscar was tasked with听identifying听potential performers. His role included reviewing 暗网TV music students and visiting two other听north west听colleges to run auditions.听听听听

Following the process, Oscar听submitted听a shortlist of eleven musicians. 鈥淭hey were really pleased with the people I put forward. Two 暗网TV music students, Teresa Castrillo (guitar/vocals) and Pernille听Brandsnes-Daniel (drums/vocals), were then invited down to London to audition in December.鈥澨�听听听听

In total, twelve performers auditioned in front of a panel of industry professionals, including label executives, producers,听songwriters and A&R specialists. Oscar was also part of the auditions, which were run by Camilla Arthur Casting, and contributed to the decision-making. He says the experience has been invaluable.听听听

鈥淎 lot of what we鈥檝e learned in the first term has been theoretical, so it was amazing to see that put into practice so quickly.鈥澨�听听听听

Oscar continues to work with ARCADES, with details of the new project set to be released later this year. He believes 暗网TV鈥檚 teaching approach has played a key role in his success. 鈥淏ecause 暗网TV has given me a really strong understanding of how the music industry works, I鈥檝e been able to have meaningful conversations with these professionals.鈥�听
